Dr. Flanigan Attends Implant Seminar
On Friday February 11, 2011 Dr. Kevin M. Flanigan attended an implant seminar sponsored by Straumann Dental Implant Company. The course was held at Holimont Ski Resort in Ellicottville with 55 attending dentists from New York State and Canada. The seminar was a 6-hour presentation of all the recent advances in implant technology and restorative options available today. The surgical presentation included the many full-size wide-bodied implant types available for different kinds of patients and their restorative needs. As you know, there are many different types of people that have unique dental and medical issues. These issues can be best treated by using the proper materials. The doctors and staff at Lancaster Dental Associates P.C. continually research and learn about our restorative options to best suit each patient’s individual dental needs.
The main speaker, Dr. Joshua Grant, discussed the latest types of implants used in the esthetic zone (smile area) that correspond to the most esthetically pleasing final results. He included instruction on how to control the gingival growth and final preparation of the implant site so that, when completed, the results look perfectly natural, beautiful and offer long term functional use and comfort for the patient. Dr. Grant showed multiple examples of how to achieve successful implant placement and restoration in areas with bone loss or inadequate existing bone. The areas can be easily modified and changed with use of modern bone graph material to achieve tremendous permanent implant results in areas where we previously could not.

Representatives from Patterson Dental Company and a dental laboratory technician completed the seminar by instructing the dentists on the available types of final restorations for the smile zone. Patterson Dental Company supplies and services LDA’s Cerec CAD/CAM unit that can be used to restore these implants with same day metal free crowns. A leading laboratory technician explained more complicated crown and bridge cases that require using laboratory techniques. This cross communication of doctor’s laboratory and supplier helps develop the most esthetically pleasing final restorations.
Dr. Flanigan enjoyed learning the latest implant type and technique information and learning the multiple treatment options for Cerec same-day restorations. The doctors have reviewed the seminar together and are excited about using this knowledge with our Lancaster Dental patients. The information learned will help all the doctors and staff of LDA to provide complete treatments plans that will result in the most life-like and functional long-term dental solutions…for all patients.
