A Thrilling Fire Truck Ride
On October 4th, Dr. Flanigan’s 7-year-old son, Jack, had the rare opportunity to ride a fire truck to school. Jack participates in the “Read to Ride” program at Hillview Elementary School in Lancaster. Hillview students are encouraged to fill out a monthly reading log with titles or chapters of books they’ve read. Each month, 4 lucky students are randomly chosen to catch a ride to school on the Bowmansville Fire Truck. Jack was thrilled to take advantage of this opportunity and jumped with joy as the fire truck sounded the sirens through the neighborhood before stopping at his house. On the truck, he and the other students learned about how the fire engine works and how the firemen use a heat vision camera to keep safe while trying to save lives. This partnership between Hillview Elementary and the Bowmansville Fire Department encourages children to become avid readers.
